A teenager was attacked by a gang wielding baseball bats.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a 17-year-old boy who was attacked in Halton Crescent, Hastings, on Tuesday, January 21.

The victim was walking home from the gym when the assault took place at 6pm.

He was with a friend when they were stopped by a group of five men. The group accused the pair of being in the area earlier, waving baseball bats around. The pair denied the accusation and tried to carry on walking. One of the men tried to hit out at the boy's friend, who managed to run away.

But the boy who remained was hit around the side of his face with what was described as a metal pole. Once the boy had been struck, the group ran away.

The boy ended up with a swollen eye and cuts to his lip. He declined hospital treatment at the time of the incident.

The group of suspects are described as being aged about 18, one is mixed race, the others white, all wearing hooded tops.

One of the men's hooded tops had a vertical orange coloured logo going down the right hand side and one of them wore a peaked cap beneath the hood of his top.
