Police investigating the rape of an 18-year-old woman in a doorway are sifting through CCTV footage to try to identify her attacker.

The victim was on a night out with friends when she was attacked between 3.30am and 4.30am on Tuesday.

She was in a doorway near the seafront when two men approached her. One of the men then raped her.

The victim is uncertain exactly where the assault happened but detectives believe it was in the area around Middle Street, Kings Road and the southern end of West Street.

Detective Inspector Julie Wakeford said: "We have now been able to get a better description of the attacker from the victim.

"The man was black, 18 to 20 and wearing a black Puffa-style jacket and black NY baseball cap.

"We really need to speak to anyone that was in the area at the time, whether they were on a night out or at work, so that we can narrow down exactly when and where the attack happened.

"People may have seen the victim in the doorway talking to a white man she had left the Coalition nightclub with before she was attacked or they may have seen the two black men leaving after the assault.

"I would urge the white man who left Coalition with the victim to contact us so we can find out what he knows and where he went.

"We are speaking to businesses in the area to talk to their staff and look through their CCTV footage to see if it gives any clues as to the identities of the three men.

"Please contact us with any information at all that you might have."
