A CARE worker from Solva is pounding the pavements of Pembrokeshire in preparation for the 2014 London Marathon.

Peter Shea-Waters works with children and young people, and since moving to the harbour village four years ago, has learned a lot about the life-long impact that neglect and abuse has on them.

The 32-year-old is supporting the NSPCC’s mission to end cruelty to children by running just over 26 miles through London on April 13.

Peter said: “I am extremely enthusiastic about my work and really enjoy working with children and young people.

“The abuse and neglect can affect them for the rest of their lives, and part of the NSPCC’s work as a charity includes running the ChildLine service, giving children vital access to support.”

Peter is holding a number of fundraising events in Solva over the coming weeks in a bid to drum up support for the NSPCC. They include a Solva bake off on Saturday, February 8 at the Bay View Stores.

On the same day Mic Rushen and Linnie Frith will ride through Fishguard dressed as cowgirls as part of the Fishguard Spaghetti Western Film Festival, collecting for the NSPCC along the way.

The Royal George will host a Spanish evening on Saturday, February 22 from 7.30pm, where there will be Spanish music, a live band and prizes for the best Spanish-themed fancy dress. Tickets cost £5, inclusive of paella.

On Tuesday, February 25 the Cafe on the Quay will hold a coffee morning between 11am and 2pm, where customers can browse the latest offerings from Solva Craft Club.

There will be a spring fashion show on Saturday, March 22 at Solva Memorial Hall, where Window on Wales will be launching their new clothes collection. Doors will open at 6pm and tickets are available at Window on Wales stores. They cost £5, inclusive of a complimentary glass of wine.

As well as these events, Rose at the Harbour Inn is holding an ongoing raffle, with some great prizes to be won.

Peter has sponsor forms in all of the village pubs and shops. Donations can also be made directly to the NSPCC by following the link: www.VirginMoneyGiving.com/PeteCanDoIt
