A dolphin was found washed up on Brighton beach this morning after stormy conditions.

The animal was found at 9.15am on the concrete opposite the Kings Rd Arches in a badly damaged condition following an evening of heavy weather.

Sophie Green, who found the dolphin while walking her dog Tilly, said: "Tilly found it, but gave it a sniff and ran away while I went to investigate further."

"It was visible from the pavement,  you could see how high the water had come up overnight and I was surprised at how far up the beach it had come."

A metal fence had been laid across the dolphin to protect the carcass from scavengers.

Dolphins are classfied as royal fish and every beaching is recorded by the HM Coastguard and the information being shared with The Natural History Museum in London.

Actually that's not completely accurate. There are fish called dolphins as it happens. But this picture is most definitely not the fishy kind.
