Emergency services were relatively inactive last night despite another evening of blustery winds and heavy rain across the county.

Both West and East Sussex fire services confirmed they had no major weather-related incidents over the course of the night.

Crews in Crawley were called out to some minor flooding at the Copthorne Hotel in Copthorne Way at just before 4am this morning while crews were also caused to flooding in a cellar in Hurstpierpoint High Street at 1.10am.

In Brighton, firefighters from Preston Circus were called to a house in Islingword Road at 7.30pm last night after a TV aerial snapped in half in the wind.

Across the county, firefighters said they were called out to a number of false alarms after strong winds set off fire alarm systems.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for the region this weekend warning that winds will increase from the southwest during the course of today with severe gales affecting coastal districts, bringing gusts of 60-70 mph and isolated 80 mph at the most exposed locations.

Large waves are also expected to affect southwest facing coasts.

The Met Office also advise that the public should be prepared for disruption to transport and locally topower supplies, particularly when combined with the impacts of heavy rainfall.

The Environment Agency have issued a flood warning for the River Ouse at Barcombe Mills near Lewes and for the River Lavant at Mid and East Lavant near Chichester.
