Shamed teacher Jeremy Forrest has claimed a ban on contacting his former pupil and lover breaches his human rights.

In a letter sent to the Daily Express, Forrest, 31, said |he had been affected by Dartmoor prison’s “isolated geography”.

Forrest, from Ringmer, said: “The reason why contact is so vital to us is because of the support and stability our relationship gives our lives.

“She is the most remarkable person I have ever met and the strength she continues to show is nothing short of amazing.

“I will not abandon her.

“The restriction on correspondence has to be lifted if the victim writes to the offender.

“Due to her age there can be no restriction put on her and it is a breach of Articles 8 and 10 of the European Human Rights Act to not allow this contact.”

Former Bishop Bell School maths teacher Forrest and the pupil fled the UK in September 2012.

At Lewes Crown Court last year he was convicted of child abduction.

He claims he agreed to face charges only on the condition that he was allowed to correspond with the girl, now 16, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

But Forrest was banned from reading a series of “warm and affectionate” letters from the girl, which he said showed she still wanted to be with him.
