Road closed in Brighton after black ice concerns following collision

The Argus: Road closed in Brighton after black ice concerns following collision Road closed in Brighton after black ice concerns following collision

A main road into Hove was shut this morning for fears of black ice after a collision.

The A2038 King George VI Avenue was closed off this morning at the roundabout with the A27 and A2023 Nevill Road.

A motorcyclist fell on the black ice at about 7.45am and as a car swerved to avoid them, it hit a fence.

A Highways Agency crew were on the scene to assess the danger of the ice and to decide if a gritter was needed.

But the road reopened at about 9.30am.

There was black ice along carden avenue as well.... nearly came a cropper then saw another cyclist who'd fallen... effin council can't do the essential things they're mean't to do, like grit the main roads... just waste money on 20mph scheme that no one adheres to or build another completely unnecessary and dangerous bus lane.... what next, a cycle lane up Bear Road

Having spoken to the greens it is their belief that a 3 meter cycle lane going in each direction would have prevented this.
Asked ti explain how much room would be left for cars Kitpratt stated "too much in my car hating utopia"

What is the point of routinely gritting when it is all just going to be washed away?

"A Highways Agency crew were on the scene to assess the danger of the ice and to decide if a gritter was needed."

If there is ICE on the road and there have been 2 incidents caused by the ICE, then why do they need to decide if it need gritting? Someone needs to decide if these so called "crews" need replacing with people with a bit of cop-on. In the time it has taken them to have a look at the road and drink a fresh brew and then have a smoke in the cab, they could have thrown a couple of shovel loads over it.

It really amazes me how some of these muppets gets cushy jobs like this..... I see them on the edge of the road, just sleeping at the wheel with their flashing lights on as I drive home at night, when the gutter in front of them is full of sand, builders buckets, tyres, young saplings..... but they can't clear that to let the rain run off.....

Can the council say how many gritters were out last night?. I drove from King George VI Ave To Holmes Ave this morning & the roads were lethal. I saw the aftermath of a pedestrian being hit by a car at the junction of Court Farm road then 10 Mins later a motor cycle burst into flames. Bloody GREENS get of your ARS*S and start running our city.....oooops forgot nearly four years too late.
