Police are expecting disruption at a UKIP event tonight in Portslade as anti-fascist campaigners are set to stage a protest.

South East candidates Janice Atkinson and Cllr Ray Finch will give speeches and take questions from the audience.

The meeting, the first UKIP event of the European Election campaign in East Sussex, is being held at Portslade Town Hall, Victoria Road at 7pm.

United Against Fascism protesters are expected to be waiting to greet the UKIP party and its supporters. Police say they are preparing for disruption.

Follow reporter Ben Leo's tweets below from 7pm for live coverage of the meeting.

"In a speech in Cambridge, Mrs Reding an EU bureaucrat, said she believed the Eurozone should become the United States of Europe, which would lead to treaty change in Brussels."

Would these protesters please suggest what anyone wanting independence is supposed to do? It is a perfectly legitimate politcal aim, pursued by many countries throughout the 20th century and no doubt these same protestors would have supported their cause.

I met Nigel Farage in Stannington on his commonsense tour. He talked for about an hour, he was articulate, passionate and you could tell he believed in what he was saying . I believed in what he was saying too and I never thought I would say that about ANY politician. The hall was full, people were standing at the back and applauding him, I thought politics is fast becoming interesting, Nigel Farage's party could be the party to put the great back in Britain but he needs us, the people, to support him. I for one will, I was very honoured to meet this man.

I will be voting for UKIP. I would be elated if Britain left the E.U. I have never understood what it has to offer us as a nation but I do understand what it has taken away. We no longer have the right to govern ourselves or control our own borders.
£50 million each day goes to the EU, how do you think the British Tax Payers can afford this ridiculous amount, then they have the nerve to give us a little of our money back and call it 'European Aid' which we express gratitude for. Our Governments have always been short of money for so many issues, such as, to build schools, hospitals, prisons, police, nurses, fire-fighters, the list is endless. We don’t look after our pensioners properly, our justice system is rubbish, small business's are caught up with so much red tape, PC & directives, it’s closing them down. Farming and our Fisheries are in trouble. Our taxes seem to be used for everything else, accept for what we want. We need to leave the EU and put our own house in order before it’s too late. The MP's expenses were disgusting but I'll bet the corruption in Brussels is a million fold, so much that auditors are unable to close down their books for the past 20 years as they couldn’t account for EU expenditure. Our Government can’t be trusted to run one country why on earth do we think heads of state can run 28 countries, all with different languages and cultures. It’s a Joke! And if you think our Government dont listen to the British public now, what are the chances of your voice being heard in a superstate of 28 countries.

If you don't like their views don't vote for them. It's a free country and every party has the right to explain their views and that's what makes it great. The other night I watched the benefits street debate on TV, much of what I heard I disagreed with but it's great that people with differing views can safely express their opinion. The protesters at tonight's UKIP meeting are more likely to give them extra media coverage and column inches and one suspects many of which will be the usual people who turn up to protest about anything and everything. I don't agree with much of what UKIP stands for so I will exercise my vote at the ballot box. The protesters are only keeping them in the public eye - sort of self defeating don't you think?

UKIP is a one man party and that one man Farage changes his opinion with the direction of the wind! It's a party funded largely by the worst of the establishment, wealthy businessmen, many of which are old school tie Etonians, it would barely exist without them.

There are many things that are wrong with the EU but you can't sort things out from the outside and a myth that we would not still be tied to the EU if we left. The free market corporatism that I would like to see challenged are precisely the things stand for. Big business and the wealthy ruling over the rest of us.

I do not think a majority of Scots will vote to leave the Uk in September due to economic repercussions. We would face much the same issues as a country if we left the EU. Scotland and Wales would definitely leave if we left the EU, why would they wish to be tied to a right wing failing state?

Following leaving the EU would the British people have more freedom over their own destiny? I doubt this very much.
