A long-awaited market is starting to take shape ahead of a spring opening.

The finishing touches are being added to Brighton's Open Market, with the facility's public entrance going up last week.

The entrance's colour-changing sign is already a hit, with passers-by stopping to take a closer look yesterday.

Designer, Lucy Williams, from Brighton-based Lucid Designs, described it as a “dream job”.

She said: “I'm from Five Ways so I'm passionate about the project and the regeneration of the area.

“Each letter of the sign has a number of LEDs which are controllable. So each letter can be made a different colour at any time.”

Joanne Harris, from the The Hyde Group, who have overseen the development, said: “We are really excited about the prospect of the new market and cannot wait for Brighton Open Market to throw open the doors and welcome in the local community to what promises to be a vibrant and thriving new market space”.

An official opening date is yet to be set but developers are working towards opening in May.
