A pair of rabbits dumped next to communal bins with just a plate of leftover roast dinner are looking for a new home.

Parsnip and Sprout, who are in surprisingly good health considering their ordeal, were found in their upturned hutch covered with just a blanket on February 2.

It was only thanks to an eagle-eyed resident spotted the abandoned pair in Hangleton Way, Hove, that they are alive.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: “I’m a rabbit owner myself so it was really horrible to see. It was quite upsetting. It’s lucky I decided to look under the blanket because if I hadn’t I have no idea what would have happened.

“I don’t understand how anyone could do something like that. They’re despicable.”

The kind-hearted animal lover took the pair into her home for the night before calling the RSPCA.

Anne Bond, chairwoman of the charity’s Patcham centre, said “They are lovely rabbits and very fond of each other.

“It will be a week or so before we can let them go but they will make lovely pets.

The RSPCA has also launched an investigation to catch whoever dumped the adorable pair.

Anyone with information should call their 24-hour cruelty line on 0300 1234 999.

If you are interested in re-homing the pair then call 01273 554218 or visit the centre in Braypool Lane.
