Two cousins have been sent to prison for conspiring to supply cocaine with a street value of £100,000 in Brighton and Hove.

Adrian Veshaj, 41 was caught on July 10 last year when officers raided a garage in Somerhill Road, Hove.

He was arrested as he was opening the boot of a parked car.

Officers found in the car and garage a total of more than two kilos of cocaine and seven kilos of 'bulking agent' used to increase weight and thus profit.

They also found an industrial hydraulic press used to package drugs for sale.

The officers then raided a flat in nearby Montpelier Road and found cousin Amadeo Veshaj, 34, with further drugs, mobile phones and £12,000 cash.

The seized drugs are estimated to have had a potential street value of more than £100,000.

Detective Inspector John Wallace said "The court found that the cousins were clearly actively involved in peddling drugs in the city. However a thorough and vast moving operation by our team, along with subsequent close co-operation with the Crown Prosecution Service, helped ensure that their activities were brought to an abrupt end.

"In addition to the sentences, we will now be seeking from the court a confiscation order for £12,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) to enable those criminal profits to be returned to legitimate society.

"Criminals like this must realise that when we catch up with them, they will be brought to justice."

The cousins, both of Park Royal, Montpelier Road, Brighton, had been charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine and with money laundering £12,000 cash.

Adrian Veshaj was convicted of both charges at Hove Crown Court on January 21 after a five-day trial, and Amadeo Veshaj had pleaded guilty to both charges at a hearing at Lewes Crown Court on December 18.

Today at Hove Crown Court Adrian Veshaj was sentenced to ten years and Amadeo Veshaj to eight and a half years.

Both men are Albanian nationals and as they have been sentenced to more than 12 months imprisonment, they are due for automatic deportation on their release.
