Crawley nighclub JJ Whispers has shut after the owners decided to sell the premises before its licence was revoked.

Last month Sussex Police submitted an application to Crawley Borough Council to have the club’s licence revoked.

A licensing review is still thought to be taking place in March despite the closure.

Police expressed concerns over sex attacks and drunken behaviour inside and outside the club.

Officers listed 37 incidents which had occurred between April 2013 and January 5 this year and argued that the 700-capacity club had failed to prevent crime and disorder or promote public safety.

Last October, JJ Whispers featured in a Channel 4 documentary, Up All Night: The Nightclub Toilet, which focused on the conversations and goings-on in the club’s toilets.

It has become known for featuring guest appearances from reality TV stars, while JLS have also performed at the club.
