What do you want to ask Green party leader Jason Kitcat ahead of Thursday's council budget meeting?

Jason Kitcat

Today's webchat

First published in News

Brighton and Hove's Labour party has faced your questions - now it's Green party leader Jason Kitcat's turn.

Today, Labour group leader Warren Morgan told readers on our live webchat that raising council tax by 2% is unavoidable in Brighton and Hove, saying his party's plan for a council tax increase was the best way to save services.

The statement came just a few days before the highly anticipated council budget showdown when Labour, along with the Green and Conservatives parties, will lay out and vote on their plans for the council's financial future.

Tomorrow, Jason Kitcat will be grilled by readers - and we want your questions for him.

Leave them in the comments below, by email to jo.wadsworth@theargus.co.uk, on our Facebook page, or on Twitter using the #bhref hashtag.

I asked Warren Morgan about the possibility of freezing Council Tax for the Lower Bands as they are the residents most likely to be the ones suffering. He thought it a was an interesting proposal.Since then I have had a reply from EU Genius saying that there are discounts available to people on a means tested basis. Why has this not been discussed by Your Group or any of the others for that matter or as I said is it kept quiet and made available to those in theknow?

1 Before setting new levels of council tax, can you organise a refund for those of us who paid in advance for rubbish collection over the current financial year but did not receive the service as originally agreed. This service has been offered for many years but amazingly it is now not working and has to be re-invented. As with any contract between suppliers and consumers, please refund.
2 You do not appear to care and maintain this city. You do not appear to know the things that matter to residents, the same people who pay your wages. Why are you not maintaining the infrastructure of the city which by the way includes more than bus lanes and cycle lanes?
3 You have packed huge numbers of street businesses in our city space - this makes our pavements ugly. Nobody wants this stuff. Did you know that this is a historic city and how it looks, its appearance is the most attractive feature to those of us who pay the taxes and your wages, and do not want all things beautiful turned into a hell hole.

Mr Kitcat,

Where you elected on a promise to be different from the other major Parties?

I ask this, because from what I see, we seem to have more surveillance cameras here in Brighton, spying on people, ready to pounce on innocent people who are just going about their business!

I ask this, because you and your Party AREN'T any different from the other Parties!

The ConDems, have done the damndest to turn working people against the unemployed! You and your Greens, have turned cyclist against the motorist and vice versa!

And frankly! I am SICK of living in a society, when people are at each other throats, and are being coerced to hate one and other!

This was done before in Nazi Germany!

No Mr KitKat!

You and your Greens are just as bad, just as rotten and just as nasty as all the other Parties!

And I am SICK OF IT!

(This has made me chuckle so much. Proud to be one of the moanerati)

How much of the council tax rise would pay for mediators, advisers and counsellors brought in again to try to get some order within the Green Party? How much would go towards yours - and your wife's - childcare costs? How much towards hospitality, travel and training costs? How much for exploratory reports for new 20mph/parking/i360 schemes?

Mr kitkat, this is a time of austerity which means that we need to prioritise and cleanse council facilities of luxuries. As you have seemingly been incapable of making this busy, bustling town create it's revenue via promoting business and within existing financial parameters, whilst making us pay for you and your colleagues incompetence and inability to work together effectively, this town has suffered.

We deserve better than you.

Mr Kitkat - the current year-end target for Council Tax collection for 2013-14 is 97.63%. If met (the January 2014 target is 1.29% below target) this suggests an uncollected amount of 2.27% which equates to £2,800,000 arrears to add to the previously reported £16,500,000 as at March 2013.

What equivalent full year Council Tax collection targets are your officers suggesting for the proposed 4.75% increase in Council Tax, the potential 2% increase or the 0% 'increase'.

What steps have you taken to collect the £16.5m legacy arrears of Council Tax to fund BHCC services including those 'for the vulnerable'?
