A person was killed when they were hit by a train at Moulsecoomb train station.
Services between Brighton and Seaford via Lewes were subject to delays and rail replacement buses were put in place.
Brighton and Hove Buses were accepting Southern rail ticket holders to help transport those affected.
Officers from the British Transport Police and Sussex Police were called to the station at 6.37pm.
Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service were also called but the person was pronounced dead at the scene and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
The train involved was the Brighton to Ashford service and the transport police handed the line back to Network Rail at 7.57pm.
