Residents now know how much extra they will be paying for their council tax after yesterday Brighton and Hove's three main parties reached an agreement.

The budget, set for a rise of 1.99%, was pushed through at a special meeting after last week's failure to find a consensus.

We want to know what you think about the rise.

Do you think it is good for the city? Should the Green Party have aimed for 1.99% in the first place?

Or were they right to stick to their guns and push for the 4.75% that would have meant a referendum for the city?

And what about the other two parties? Labour got the rise they wanted, so are they the winners? And where does the result leave the Conservatives?

Have your say below.

Probably a fair compromise, however, here in the Adur the council tax has remained the same. I seemed to recall the government offered local council an incentive not to increase council tax anyway!

As long as it doesn't go towards anymore asinine projects that punish motorists, like reducing lanes for cyclists, 20 MPH signs painted on roads that no one heeds.... anything to do with that tit Ian Davey... can't wait for the next election to get rid of these imbeciles.

No.. It is a poor compromise. The greens will go on making a mess of things and blame everyone else because they wanted a 4.9% rise.

Happy? No!

Accepting? Yes.

It is a botched compromise, but even as such, very few of our acquaintance trust the Greens to spend it prudently - after all, on past evidence and with just over a year to go to the election, they have very little to lose now that they haven't already thrown away.

Wonder how much extra we'll be asked to stump up to cover the interest on the government loan when the i360 developer goes bust?

All London boroughs have frozen council tax this year but we have an inept council who can't manage the budget effectively and do the same. Pathetic.
