SIR – It was kind of Ian Parsons to write (Letters, February 27) in support of my earlier letter setting the record straight on Labour’s economic competence 1997-2010.

Mr Parsons is correct also in surmising that composing and submitting the letter was not easy. Sleep has been lost. However, there are times when you just have to poke your head above the parapet.

I have since carried out a further exercise. Ten days ago, I published a pamphlet that is a critique of Liberal Democrat support for George Osborne’s austerity package – and what the alternative might have been.

The monograph – “A Better Song to Sing” – includes a foreword by Professor Simon Wren-Lewis, a macro-economist at Oxford University. I found it reassuring that a leading specialist in the field was able to endorse my argument.

Should any reader be interested in receiving an electronic copy of this pamphlet, please get in touch with me at john.cole6744@gmail.com.

The hard copies of the monograph I hope to sell at the Liberal Democrat conference in York for £1. I would only ask that recipients of the e-book give £1 to the next Big Issue salesperson they meet.
