Drama students at Ilkley Grammar School recently took to the stage to showcase their skills and acting ability to potential future drama students.
Year ten drama GCSE students performed a showcase of work for Year 9s, who are in the process of choosing their GCSE option subjects for next year.
The performances were based on work and projects carried out in lesson time, including Brechtian Riot pieces, Stanislavski monologues and abstract work. With no backdrop or stage setting the pieces had to work based on the actors’ talents and they did not disappoint.
The pieces covered a gamut of emotions, all executed with a maturity beyond their years.
Drama teacher, Jess Watson, said: “It was a great opportunity for year ten students to perform in front of a real audience. It helps to build their confidence and experience in preparation for exams. The showcase also enables year nine students to get a feel of what drama GCSE is like.
“The showcase was a great success and all involved should be very proud of their work. It is a great example of how peers can inspire and support each other in important learning choices.”
There was time at the end of the performances for a detailed question and answer session.
