Police investigating a vicious assault in a St Leonards pub are hoping a Crimewatch appeal will help trace the attacker.

A 44-year-old local man required over 40 stitches above his right eye after being attacked with a pool cue in the Duke pub at around 10pm on Friday 29 March last year.

The victim had been playing pool with another man when an argument broke out followed by an assault.

CCTV showing the attack was broadcast  on the Crimewatch last night.

Detective Constable Andy Lawrence said: "We have previously released CCTV still images of the man we wish to speak to, who we believe is called Perry, and does not come from the Hastings area.

"We also believe he has a mother called Barbara who plays bingo and a father called Frederick who had recently died.

"The video broadcast last night has resulted in several interesting calls which we will be following up."
