A burglar broke into a dentist surgery and two homes over the course of a weekend.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the series of break-ins in Shoreham between March 15 and 16.

The first incident was reported at 3.20pm on Sunday (16 March) when a woman in her home saw a man walking towards her open front door in East Street.

The woman challenged him and the man left.

At about the same time a man walked into Shoreham Oral Care in East Street and stole a wallet.

At 4.15pm on Sunday a man was seen looking through the windows of homes in Middle Street until he was disturbed by a resident.

A house in Church Street was broken into between 1.30pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday while the owner was away.

The fifth incident on Sunday saw an intruder sneak into a home in High Street through an open window and steal hundreds of pounds while the resident was in another part of the property between midday and 6pm on Sunday.

The man is described as white, aged 20 to 35, 5' 7" to 5' 10" and of average build. He had dark short brown hair and was wearing casual clothing.

Detective Constable Jane Mills said: "The man appears to have spent some time in Shoreham committing offences and looking for opportunities to steal.

"If you saw anyone fitting the description of the man or anyone acting suspiciously around Shoreham at the weekend please contact us."
