Commuters are facing a week of disruption when a station is part closed for major redevelopment.

London Bridge station will be out of action for Southern Rail and First Capital Connect services for nine days between August 23 and 31 for the installation of two new platforms.

There will also be disruption later this month, with Southern services at London Bridge reduced after the morning peak on March 28.

On March 29 and 30 there will be no Southern or First Capital Connect services calling at the station.

The work is part of a major project which will see disruption right through until completion in 2018.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “The overhaul of London Bridge - Britain's biggest ever station redevelopment - will result in a bigger, brighter station that is unrecognisable from today.

“When complete the station will be longer than the Shard is tall, with a new single concourse larger than the pitch at Wembley at street level to provide more space and easier connections to other rail services and the Underground.

“Improved links will join the two communities to the north and south of the station and help boost economic regeneration in the area.”
