She screamed as a crateful of bugs was poured over her on TV show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! – and the decibel levels reached a high five again this week when Annabel Giles had another creepy crawly encounter.

The blindfolded TV presenter, who lives in Brighton, braved a version of a Bushtucker Trial when she plunged her hand into a box of live crickets and rubber snakes at the launch of the new £1 million Rainforest Adventure attraction at Brighton Sea Life Centre.

Watched by fellow guests and Brighton and Hove Albion stars Craig Mackail-Smith and Bruno Saltor Grau, as well as schoolchildren and their parents, she also managed to gulp down dried crickets and locusts.

Max Leviston, manager of Brighton Sea Life Centre, said: “She was terrified.

“She had to answer questions and for every question she got wrong she had to eat a cricket, a locust or a mealworm, and she got four wrong.

“Luckily, the footballers helped her out and downed three of the creepy- crawlies, leaving Annabel with only a mealworm to swallow.

“Annabel was a great sport, although she did scream a lot, especially when we blindfolded her and placed a terrapin in each of her hands.

“All the children were getting involved and cheering her on. It was brilliant.”

The new £1 million Rainforest Adventure opens today and features a nine-feet-long 16-kilo green anaconda, the world’s biggest species of snake, which can reach 40 feet when fully grown.

There are also six Chinese water dragons, rescued terrapins, poison dart frogs, piranhas and hundreds of other Amazon fish.
