A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two women were stabbed in their own home.

The women, aged 20 and 21, fled to safety from their home in Dean Street, Brighton, and flagged down a passing police car in Western Road after they were attacked at about 3.15am this morning.

They were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening although Sussex Police said they were left "distressed and shocked" from their ordeal.

A 19-year-old man is in police custody.
