Two police officers have been suspended over allegations about their behaviour with a woman while on duty in a marked police car.

The officers, both PCs based in East Sussex, are being investigated on suspicion of gross misconduct fol- lowing the alleged incident in Heathfield, near Eastbourne.

A force spokesman confirmed the officers had been suspended from duty on full pay while the force carries out an investigation into the alleged incident, which is said to involve police officers taking pictures of a woman.

The incident reportedly took place in November last year but the officers were only suspended last Friday, The Argus can reveal.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “On March 28 uniformed police officers from East Sussex division were suspended from operational duties.

“They are now under investigation for gross misconduct over matters relating to an allegation involving their interaction with a female member of the public in a marked police vehicle in Heathfield in November.

“The matter is being investigated by the force’s professional standards department.

“We cannot comment further on the case as the investigation is ongoing.”

Asked if the allegations involved photography, a Sussex Police spokesman said they would not deny this.

He would not be drawn on whether the allegation was sexual but did confirm it was definitely not violent.

It is believed the woman involved has been or is due to be interviewed by the police’s professional standards department
