A plan to create ‘banks’ for unwanted bicycles to be collected for refurbishment has won £1,000 funding from an ideas competition.

The Brighton Bike Hub wants to set up spaces in the city where bikes can be securely left, to be collected for refurbishment and re-use to reduce abandonment and increase the supply.

The hub is currently based in a workshop at the Old Market in Circus Street, Brighton, on Thursdays and Saturdays between 11am and 5pm and will shortly be opening a shop in Lewes Road.

The not-for-profit project is run by regeneration charity Groundwork, with all proceeds invested in the local community and cycling in Brighton and Hove.
