A trial that will see cyclists and pedestrians share a section of seafront promenade is to launch.

East Sussex County Council has announced cyclists will be able to use the section of the promenade between Edinburgh Road and the Martello Tower in Seaford throughout the summer, starting on Sunday.

During the trial period, members of the public will be asked for their views on whether the change should be permanent.

The Share with Care launch event will be held at the Martello Tower between 10am and 4pm and will be attended by representatives of Seaford Town Council, Cycle Seahaven, East Sussex County Council and Sustrans.

Copies of the trial questionnaire are also available from Seaford Library and Seaford Tourist Information Centre while those using the seafront will also be asked for their views at various times during the trial.

Councillor Carl Maynard, East Sussex County Council’s lead member for transport and environment, said: “This is a great opportunity to encourage more people to cycle in Seaford. Our experience with other seafront schemes of this type in the county has been very positive.

“Rather than asking people what they think of a potential scheme, running it as a trial will enable the public to try it out and give us feedback based on their views before any decision is made as to whether or not it should be made permanent.”

During the trial scheme people will also be able to give their views by filling in an online questionnaire at www.eastsussex.gov.uk/haveyoursay.
