A nurse who allegedly threw water over a patient has been temporarily banned from work.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) on March 24 requested that Vivien Terry, who works for Sussex Community NHS Trust, be suspended from practising for 18 months so they could investigate allegations against her.

An NMC report said: “The allegations in this case are that Mrs Terry on two occasions deliberately threw water over a service user in retaliation for what she perceived to be offensive behaviour. This occurred against a backdrop of allegations of aggressive comments or behaviour towards other patients.

“The majority of these allegations were upheld during local disciplinary proceedings and Mrs Terry was dismissed from her post on December 23, 2013.”

The report continued: “The panel noted that the allegations are serious in nature, involving inappropriate conduct towards vulnerable patients.

“The panel noted that there appears to be a lack of insight by Mrs Terry in relation to the alleged misconduct.

“The panel considered that there was a real risk of repetition of the alleged behaviour and consequently a risk of harm to patients if Mrs Terry was allowed to practise without restriction.”
