A man was attacked in Peacehaven in the early hours of Saturday morning  and was bitten by his assailant's dog.

The man was walking along Telscombe Cliffs Way with a friend at around 2.50am when they were approached near Kirby Drive by two men with a dog, described as a brown Staffie-type with white patches on its chest.

One of the men started to verbally abuse the victim, a 25-year-old local man, and then started to punch his head.

As he did so, the dog, which was running loose, bit the victim's leg causing severe lacerations that needed stitches at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

The attacker is described as white, aged 27-29, 6', of skinny build with short black hair and wearing black T-shirt and jeans.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 or email quoting serial 172 of 05/04.
