This geyser raised his head above ground to make quite a splash in the neighbourhood.

Argus reader Sarah Mattock sent in this picture of a spectacular burst water main in Grand Avenue, Hove, on Monday afternoon.

Fortunately, engineers were on scene to quickly fix the problem.

A Southern Water spokeswoman said: "We apologise to customers in Grand Avenue, Hove, for the interruption to their water supply on Monday afternoon.

"We knocked on doors to explain to people that a burst water main was the cause and that they would temporarily lose their supplies while it was repaired.

"The main was found and fixed in just over an hour, quickly returning water to those homes affected."
