Fast food lovers rejoice – a trio of tasty takeaway outlets in Sussex have been named the best in Britain.

Online food ordering website hungryhouse.co.uk revealed the country’s best ten takeaway restaurants after scouring more than 9,000 outlets nationwide.

And it is good news for those who are prone to slumping on the sofa with a burger from Brighton, a pizza from Crawley or a Chinese from Bognor.

Jade Chinese in Hawthorn Road, Bognor, has been judged Sussex’s finest takeaway after ranking the fifth best in Britain.

The restaurant promises “quality and freshness” and dares hungry customers to “spoil yourself with specialities”.

Following Jade in seventh place is Italian Pizza in Gatwick Road, Crawley, which offers mouth-watering pizzas including the popular Capricciosa – a 12 inch stuffed crust special with sliced hot dog, sweet Italian sausage, salamino piccante, artichoke hearts and drops of olive oil.

In ninth place is Brighton’s Smoque Grill in Islingword Road, which offers banging burgers, perfect pizzas and cracking kebabs.

Sepand Sarmadi, manager of Smoque Grill, said: “We’re happy with that. It’s a good achievement because we only started six months ago and we’ve managed to win people’s attention for our food and service.

"We’re thinking of expanding to cover more areas too so this has been a nice surprise.”

When asked what Smoque Grill’s most popular menu item was, Mr Sarmadi said: “The Challenger Burger. It’s a triple-stack handmade smoke-grilled recipe burger with American Swiss cheese, double smoked streaky bacon, onion rings, crispy pepperoni, salad, ketchup and mayonnaise on a flour bun.

“We’ve just introduced the Extreme Challenger too, which is everything above but an extra stack that includes two chicken stake fillets. Everyone who finishes the Challenger burgers get to join the Challenger club.”

Food experts at hungryhouse.co.uk compiled the rankings based on restaurant popularity, customers reviews, ratings and return rates.

Shane Lake, co-founder, hungryhouse.co.uk, said: “Customers now have so much choice when it comes to food ordering that they are no longer willing to accept below-par takeaway meals.

"We want to ensure the passion and quality of the nation’s best takeaways gets them the recognition they deserve.”

It is estimated the takeaway food industry is valued at more than £2.2 billion each year in the UK.
