Out of use Brighton Pub the Newmarket Arms is set to be converted into housing.

Brighton-based Insite Planning has applied to convert the currently closed Newmarket Arms in Bear Road in Brighton into a one bedroom flat, a two bed flat and a three bedroom house.

The pub’s beer garden will be converted into two private gardens.

A decision is expected on the proposals next month.

A very sensible idea and should be encouraged wherever premises such as these are otherwise left to rot. An answer to affordable housing without decimating yet more green spaces.

Best thing for it. I used to live round the corner from this place - didn't know it had closed, but glad to hear it has: the police were always being called out to it and it took a brave woman who dared to walk past the 'garden' terrace out front when it was full of yahoos. Good riddance.
