An 18-year-old girl was raped after being forced into a car park near a supermarket.

Police were called shortly after 10pm on 13 April to a report that an 18-year-old woman had been raped as she was waiting for a friend in New England Street, Brighton,

The woman said she was waiting at around 9.20pm by the car park for Sainsbury's when she was approached by two men who asked for a cigarette. They then pulled her into the car park and one of the men raped her.

Police are hoping to talk to anyone who was in the area of Sainsbury's on Sunday evening who might be able to help them with an investigation.

Detective sergeant Stephen French said: "We are at the very early stages of this investigation and are providing the woman with the support she needs. She describes these men as white, between 18 and 20 and average build.

"There a large number of flats which overlook the area and as it was a warm day on Sunday and people may have still been out on their balconies.

"The cashpoint at Sainsbury's is also well used and people visiting that may well have seen something which could help us with our investigation.

"Anyone who might have seen something or have any information is asked to contact police on 101 or 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1451 of 13/4."
