A man has been charged for racially aggravated common assault, theft and a public order offence after a shoplifting incident.
Melvin Cochran, 31, unemployed, of Crest Way, Portslade, was charged at Brighton Magistrates Court on April 2 and has been bailed and is due to reappear on July 3.
The public order offence was using threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby.
Sussex Police were called to the Co-op in St James's Street, Brighton at around 5pm on Monday 31 in response to the incident.
