A man who tried to rob a post office while riding his bike left empty handed - without cash or his bike.

The man made his move after standing at a bus stop in Seaside watching a delivery of cash to St Anthony's Post Office, Eastbourne, around 10.10am on Tuesday (April 15)

He made a grab for the bag of money that was being delivered, when inside the Post Office, but was unsuccessful and ran off, leaving his bike behind.

Detective Sergeant Dave Tye said: "Fortunately, he failed in his attempt and compounded this by abandoning the blue, Carrera Subway, mountain bike. At this time we don't know if it was his or whether he might have stolen it locally, so we are keen to hear from anyone who either saw it in the area or has lost it themselves.

"The suspect is described as white, in his early 20s and wearing a black or dark blue, hooded jacket with dark trouser bottoms and had a dark coloured rucksack with neon orange markings on it on his back.

"If you have any information about the man or the bicycle, you witnessed the incident or saw him at the bus stop in Seaside around 10 o'clock, please call Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 352 of 15/04.
