An acclaimed blues duo played an acoustic gig in a record shop in the run-up to their biggest day of the year.

Resident staff welcomed the return of the Smoke Fairies for their second intimate gig at the record shop in Kensington Gardens, Brighton, this Monday.

The gig is part of a busy week of 10th anniversary celebrations for the record shop and which culminates in the annual Record Store Day on Saturday.

The store will open its doors at 7am on Saturday with a line of impatient music fans set to spread around the block.

Street-performing singer The Space Lady will entertain the waiting fans as they queue.

Co-owner Derry Watkins said: “It’s far and away the biggest day of our year, it’s like two days rolled into one.

“The day has grown too big for us to do anything in the store on the day.

“People start queuing the night before and it lasts the whole day, last year we cleared the queue by about 6pm.”
