A craftsman has been inundated with orders as people succumb to the craze that is the Game of Thrones phenomenon.

Armourer Alex Agricola has been making costumes and props for 23 years after starting as a teenager.

Mr Agricola, who is based in Chichester at his workshop LederKraft Studios in Chilgrove, said the recent global obsession with the Game of Thrones television show on Sky Atlantic and other fantasy films and video games has sent business booming.

He said: “People are starting to take their hobbies more seriously and they want really authentic-looking stuff when they dress up – not the plastic disposable party stuff. They want stuff that feels weathered and looks like it could have stepped off a movie set or out of history.”

He recently fulfilled an order from a party who wanted a Game of Thrones themed wedding, complete with replicas of gowns and armour created for the show.

The most popular outfit he crafts is the heavy fur and leathers worn by the Night’s Watch characters in the HBO show.

Fans and roleplayers are willing to pay well for Mr Agricola’s work – with a recent full mock-up of the costume worn by Edward Kenway, lead character of game Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, carrying a £3,000 price tag.

Mr Agricola has also had a hand in producing costumes for TV and film, producing costumes for the BBC series Merlin and Atlantis as well as for some major motion pictures and making reference props for video games.

He said: “I get really excited about every single piece I design and build.”

His dream project is to work on a version of the suit of armour worn by Marvel superhero Iron Man.

In order to help meet the current demand he has now produced a free book for enthusiasts to learn how to produce their own costumes, which is available from www.thecrystalanvil.com/ebookv/
