A 15-year-old girl remained in a critical condition in hospital last night following a collision with a parked car in Worthing.

The teenager was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in London after the car she was travelling in with four other young people collided with a parked white Mercedes in Goring, near Worthing.

North Brook College student Tayler Loftus, 18, was also among those injured in the silver Peugeot 206 when it crashed in Alinora Avenue at the junction with Alinora Drive.

Nadia Loftus, 34, Tayler’s mother, said: “They were all really good friends – I don’t know much about how the other girls are; we have been so worried about Tayler. It is really shocking.

“She was supposed to be coming home for her driving lessons so we knew something had happened when she did not turn up – then the police arrived at our door.

“That was the worst thing, the police telling you that your daughter has been in an accident but she was alive, thank God.

“We went straight to the hospital and she has got to have an operation.

“She has a broken hip and is going to be in hospital a week.”

Miss Loftus and a 14-year-old girl were taken to the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton.

The two men in the car were arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol and of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

They were in police custody being interviewed yesterday.

Witnesses at the scene described a large “bang” and said the Mercedes was “shunted around six car lengths down the road”.

The 15 and 14-year-old had to be cut free of the vehicle by firefighters attending from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
