The glorious spring weather will continue as the Easter getaway begins tomorrow.

But the latter part of the Bank Holiday weekend will see the onset of rain with downpours expected on Easter Sunday and Monday.

On the trains engineering works mean there will be no trains stopping at London Bridge from Friday until Monday.

On First Capital Connect trains, passengers will be diverted via London Blackfriars and East Croydon and will additionally stop at Elephant and Castle.

On Southern, trains between London Bridge and Uckfield will run between East Croydon and Uckfield on Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Buses also replace trains between Lewes and Seaford on Sunday.

Motorists will hope to have a clear journey and the Highways Agency has worked to complete a number of roadworks in Sussex in time for the four-day weekend.

Works at the A259 East Guldeford (near Rye), the A27 Busticle Lane (near Worthing) and A27 Southwick (near Southwick) have all been completed.

And roadworks at the A23 near Pyecombe, the A259 near Bexhill, the A27 near Chichester and the M23 near Crawley have been lifted over the holiday.

But major widening work on the A23 at Haywards Heath will continue and could cause some holiday travel problems.

Simon Sheldon-Wilson, director of traffic management at the Highways Agency, said: “We are investing record amounts in improvements on our network and recognise there will be disruption.

That is why we plan our work to keep that disruption to a minimum and lift as many road worksas possible at busy or peak times such as Easter.

“Before setting out, we ask people to plan their journeys and make use of the range of traffic information services we provide to ensure the Easter getaway is as smooth as possible.”
