Tensions are “running high” among residents after threats were made against people involved in a serious crash.

Two pedestrians including a teenager suffered serious injuries in the collision in Pulborough at 12.35am on Sunday.

Now Sussex Police have gone on Facebook to ask people not to make threats against those involved.

Details of the threats were not revealed, but they are believed to have been made against Daniel Flay, 31, who appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged in connection with the incident in which two men were seriously injured.

The men, aged 18 and 24, were injured when a car crashed into them as it was being driven north on the A29 London Road at 12.35am on Sunday.

An 18-year-old was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, South London, with serious but non-life threatening head and body injuries.

A 24-year-old was treated at Worthing General Hospital for a leg injury.

Now Sussex Police has asked people not to make threats to any of the people involved.

A spokesman would yesterday not elaborate on the type of threats made.

The statement said: “Resulting from the unfortunate incident in Pulborough on Sunday whereby two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle, community tensions appear to have been running high, with some threats being made to individuals involved.

“Sussex Police would like to reiterate that this is an ongoing investigation and they should be left to deal with it.

“Local residents should not concern themselves in any way and are requested not to get involved unless they have any information that may assist.”

Flay, 31, of Highfield, Wick, near Littlehampton, has been charged with GBH with intent, ABH, dangerous driving and driving when over the alcohol limit.

The case has been adjourned to Lewes Crown Court.
