The Argus reported the conviction of Joanne Dunmore of Littlehampton for racially aggravated harassment in The Argus newspaper (story below) on April 21.

The article said she pleaded guilty to one count of the charge when she appeared at Chichester Crown Court.

It also stated that an anti-social behaviour order was imposed on her but that was incorrect.

She was given a £500 fine and ordered to pay £1,200 court costs and a £50 victim surcharge.

We are happy to correct this.

A 66-year-old woman has been given an Asbo after terrorising her neighbours – including an ex-gangland enforcer for the Kray twins.

Peter Gillett, a former gangster who spent nearly 15 years in Britain’s toughest jails, admits he has met his match in Joann Dunmore.

The musclebound ex-con used to rub shoulders with notorious Reggie and Ronnie Kray, and did jail time with the Yorkshire Ripper.

But he said Dunmore made life hell for him and others living around her in a converted house at sedate Littlehampton.

Dunmore was given an interim Asbo last month over complaints she constantly screams abuse, smashes flowerpots and even plays the drums in the middle of the night.

And on Thursday she pleaded guilty to one count of racially aggravated harassment at Chichester Crown Court.

She spoke only to confirm her name and give her guilty plea during the five-minute hearing before Recorder John Hardy QC.

Embattled Peter, 55, said: “I’ve met Peter Sutcliffe, and I tell you what, he is an absolute saint compared to that evil woman.

“She is the nastiest and most spiteful person I have ever met in my entire life, and I met some real monsters in Belmarsh.

“She seems to have calmed down a lot after she got the Asbo, so that's a blessing.

“I don’t know how long it will last though.”

Weightlifting fanatic Peter was first jailed in 1982 after his armed gang was caught trying to hold up a post office.

He served time with Reggie Kray in Parkhurst and Maidstone prisons and became the notorious gangster’s “adopted son”, even recording a song co-written by the crime lord.

Despite insisting he has never ‘grassed anyone up’, Peter begged police to stop his elderly neighbour's reign of terror.

Speaking when Dunmore was at her worst, Peter said: “She just terrorises me.

“She’s affecting my health and I’ve had to turn to drink to keep me sane. Ten years ago I would have been on the rampage by now.

“I have sat next to the Ripper on a prison visit to see Ronnie Kray – but even he doesn’t compare to this old bird. It just never stops, drunken abuse, swearing – the lot.

"I just can’t stand it any more.

“One time she even threatened to get the local gangster round but it turns out he’s an old mate of mine, so that didn’t work.

“Maybe she doesn’t realise who I am or what I’ve done. I’ve stabbed people in prison, for God’s sake.”

Last year, Dunmore, who describes herself as an author, denied she was the neighbour from hell – and said she was “certainly not scared” of Peter.

She said: “I don’t care what he’s done or where he’s been.

"I have done a lot of things in my life and he doesn’t worry me at all.

“He says he was an armed robber but I haven’t seen any proof of that. He’s just got it in for me.”

Dunmore will be sentenced for the racially aggravated harassment next month.

Her temporary anti-social behaviour order ends in June.
