The A27 at Falmer Hill is partially blocked because of a minor accident involving three vehicles this morning (Thursday).
It is partially blocked westbound between the B2123 The Drove junction in Falmer and Patcham.
The accident happened near Brighton and Hove Albion's Amex stadium at around 7.30am.
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service operator said: "We received a call from the police at around 7.20am to reports of a three-vehicle collision where some fuel had leaked onto the road.
"Nobody was trapped and our crew are making the area safe."
Sussex Police said the accident was a "three-car shunt".
The carriageway has re-opened but there is congestion to Woodingdean.
