Generous Argus readers have been donating school supplies which will be sent to Africa less than a week after an appeal was launched in the newspaper.

A container full to the brim has already been shipped out of The Argus warehouse to Ngorongoro of Tanzania.

The Argus donated the space to the Fonthill Foundation which is behind the project. The charity filled the giant 40ft shipping container with recycled furniture, books and stationery.

Now, the charity is urging more Argus readers to help.

Anyone interested should take Duplo bricks, pencils, exercise books, tennis balls and children’s books, especially picture books, to The Argus collection point at the Marina.

Fonthill Trustee Victoria Henley said: “These Argus reader donations will be part of the equipment sent to schools in rural Africa which have so few materials to teach with and where even the youngest pupils walk up to two hours to reach school.”

The collection point is at the Marina Security and Information Office on The Boardwalk, next to the free multi-storey car park, upstairs opposite the West Quay pub.
