This summer's big screen schedule will kick off with the Football World Cup opening ceremony and end with the competition's final.

The football-dominated programme will also feature Andy Murray's Wimbledon title defence along with a host of Hollywood films.

Brighton Big Screen is back for a third year between June 12 and July 13.

For the second year the free event will be located to the east of Palace Pier, next to the Brighton Wheel.

The first day will kick off with a table-football Foosball tournament run by Brighton and Hove Albion before the live screening of the Brazil World Cup opening ceremony at 7pm.

Following the ceremony the first game of the tournament, Brazil v Croatia, will be screened.

The following day will see more football, with Mexico v Cameroon and Spain v Netherlands, before the film schedule starts on Saturday (June 14) with E.T., Dirty Dancing and Bridesmaids.

The first week will see ten more World Cup matches with England's second group game against Uruguay on June 19 at 8pm.

Their first fixture against Italy on June 14 will not be shown because to is being played at 11pm.

The second weekend will feature a host of other films including The Lego Movie, Hunger Games - Catching Fire and BAFTA award winning Captain Phillips, all on June 21, as well as E.T., Jaws and Ovingdean-based Steve Coogan's Alpha Papa on June 22.

The second week will not only see a return of the football but also the start of Wimbledon.

From 1pm to 5pm each day, there will be coverage from the pristine lawns of SW19 including the start of Andy Murray's campaign to defend his 2013 title.

The big game in the World Cup in the second week will be when England take on Costa Rica on June 24 at 5pm.

The third weekend will see a return of the films with War Horse, Jaws, Dirty Dancing and a selection of children's classics.

The tennis is back the following week from 1pm each day as well as the knockout stages of the World Cup.

A highlight of the month long run will be the penultimate weekend with the World Cup quarter finals, Wimbledon finals and coverage of the British Grand Prix.

Jaws and Hunger Games - Catching Fire will also be shown on the Sunday night.

The final week is dominated by films including Beyond the Wave and re-runs of E.T., Jaws, Dirty Dancing, Bridesmaids and The Lego Move.

Tuesday and Wednesday, July 8 and 9, will see the World Cup semi-finals before the third place play-off on July 12 and the final live from Rio de Janeiro rounding off the run at 8pm on July 13.
