An elderly man disturbed burglars – a woman then found their haul stashed in a hedge.
The resident of Annweir Avenue, Lancing, disturbed two men when he returned home at about 1pm on Saturday.
He shouted at them and they ran off.
Later in the day, at about 4.30pm, two women were in the Eriswell Road area of Worthing when they saw two men discard a carrier bag in a hedge. They opened the bag and found cash and jewellery stolen from the burglary in Lancing hours earlier.
DC Laura Sinden said: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in either of the roads. The men are described as white, around 35 to 40 years old and scruffy. One was more tanned than the other and both wore hooded tops, one grey the other white.”
Call Sussex Police on 101.
