Three doodle enthusiasts are inviting members of the public to join a 24-hour doodle marathon this weekend.
Curator Tamara Fletcher and “doodle artists” Roy Petersen and Mike Wolff will bring Happy Planet DoodleFest to the ONCA gallery in St George’s Place, Brighton. The doodle marathon, or doodle-thon, will take place from midday on Saturday.
Ms Fletcher said: “It’s going to be a doodle party, open to all. Not everyone can draw but everyone can doodle. It’s also a test of creative endurance. I’ll be there as long as I can but Roy and Mike will definitely go the full duration.”
Mr Petersen and Mr Wolff draw images that are sometimes simple, sometimes intricate – but never planned.
Mr Petersen said: “A true doodle is an innate scribbling from the mind. It’s the rock ’n’ roll of illustration. It also increases memory and improves listening skills.”
The exhibition was inspired by The Doodle Movement, a global campaign to promote “napkin art” as a therapeutic activity.
Visitors to the gallery will be encouraged to doodle on postcards which will then be put on display for sale, with proceeds going to mental health charity Brighton and Hove Mind.
