A police officer has been found dead at a popular Sussex beauty spot.

Andy Cheney, 34, who lived in Etchingham was a constable in Kent Police.

A statement issued by Sussex Police confirmed Mr Cheney was found dead at the Pooh Bridge car park at Hartfield in the Ashdown Forest.

It said: "A post mortem was held on Monday 28 April, and death was found to have resulted from hanging."

The spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious and the coroner's officer was investigating, with an inquest expected to be carried out "in due course".

A spokesman for Kent police said: "It is with great sadness that Kent Police can confirm the death of a serving police constable, which occurred in Sussex on the morning of April 25.

"We are supporting Sussex Police with their enquiries."

Of course he had a mental illness, why do you think people kill themselves? It's not for a laugh is it?
I'm guessing you've never had any experience with suicide or the fall out or you wouldn't post such a moronic comment.
My condolences to his family.

exactly this, people dont just walk out their front door of a morning and decide to end their life

People really need to start understanding mental illness and stop passing it off as needing to 'pull their socks up'

it is sad that this person did not receive help and support to keep them safe. anyone can learn skills needed to prevent suicide, including how to recognise if someone is thinking about suicide.
if anyone reading this would like to learn suicide intervention skills i suggest you read about a local charity in brighton who deliver free training to local people.... they are called Grassroots Suicide Prevention http://www.prevent-s

Terry K: did you know him? No you did not so I don't think anyone is interested in your ignorant and naive opinions. Selfish behaviour requires conscious thought which someone at the brink of dioxide does not have. You can not just retract a statement and undo the offence caused. Shame on you, not on him or his memory. How sad RIP x
