More than 100 volunteers descended on Brighton beach on to take part in a big clean-up.
The Marks & Spencer’s Big Beach Clean-up saw customers and employees joined by St Luke’s Primary School pupils and other community groups to help free the beach from rubbish on April 29.
The event is run in partnership with the Marine Conservation Society and saw litter pickers collecting everything from wrappers, plastic and pieces of rope to more unusual items such as three pairs of spectacles and a plastic palm tree.
More than 20 bags of rubbish were collected from Brighton beach, weighing over 55kgs.
Matt Rowlin, store manager at M&S Brighton, said: “We were absolutely delighted with the turnout for this year’s Big Beach Clean-up and would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to help tidy Brighton beach.
“The clean-up is all about bringing the community together to help protect marine life, and it was fantastic to see so many people working together, having fun and supporting such a great cause.”
