An investigation has been launched after a dog was injured – but a local pooch called Summer the Rottweiler was not responsible, police confirmed.

A Sussex Police statement confirmed a dog was injured by a Rottweiler dog in Owlbeech Woods, Horsham, on Monday April, 14.

The statement continued: “An investigation has been undertaken by officers from Horsham Police Station.

“This was reported on Thursday, April 25 and included an appeal for witnesses and information from investigating officer PC Ollie Pullen.

“As a result of information provided to police, including the name of a dog which was thought possibly involved, enquiries have been undertaken. These enquiries have now shown that the dog and the owner of that dog were not involved in the incident.

“We have been able to speak to the owner of a Rottweiler dog which is called Summer and lives locally.

“Neither Summer nor her owner were involved in this incident and can be discounted from further investigation.

“Enquiries are however ongoing and we wish to renew our appeal for witnesses or information regarding the owner of the Rottweiler dog involved. “The owner is as being female about 5ft 5 inches tall, white, slim with shoulder length brown hair.

“She was wearing sunglasses at the time and was in the company of three young children one of which was in a push chair"
