Man stabbed by stranger as he walked to work in Brighton

The Argus: Man stabbed by stranger as he walked to work in Brighton Man stabbed by stranger as he walked to work in Brighton

A man was stabbed as he walked to work.

The 39-year-old was walking in Plaistow Close when he was approached from behind by a man who struck him repeatedly in the side and then ran off at about 5.45am on Monday.

The 39-year-old fell to the ground and at first believed he had been punched but then realised he was bleeding from the wound.

The victim was treated in hospital for minor wounds to his side before being released.

The attacker was Asian, in his late teens or early 20s and slim.

Police said he had had black hair and “sucked in cheeks”.

He was wearing a black hooded top, black skinny jeans and white trainers.

PC Aaron Halsey said: "This was a nasty attack in the middle of a residential area so people may have seen or heard it happen as they got up or prepared to go to work themselves.

"If you were in the area and know anything about what happened, please contact us."

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting serial 148 of 28/4, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

It would seem that walking in Brighton in the early hours of the morning is becoming increasingly dangerous. Whilst this is more early morning than late night it makes it essential to be very, very aware of your surroundings and constantly scan around yourself.
Brighton, as almost everywhere, has always had its violence but it was mostly around pub/club shutting time. Now due to the all night culture it can be all night long. Shocking incident all the same.

Unless of course the man that was attacked was also Asian.

In which case it probably wasn't a racist attack.

Silly speculating when we know none of the details.

I agree I have lived in many areas around the country,i have been attacked three times over the years and they have ALL been in Brighton or Hove.Officially crime is down but I think it's just because we have few police on duty after dark these days to record any.Closing down local police stations has not helped,in Hove these days you very rarely see police after dark even in a car.

A terrible and thankfully rare attack for which we have scant detail. Let's hope the attacker is caught soon.

However, sorry to disagree but crime is down year on year, by any measure you care to choose (I ignore the police figures as they are always fiddled!). This city is far safer than it was when I moved here.

IF crime is down, which I VERY much doubt, it's because we're all living in mini-prisons and looking over our shoulders all the time. There is absolutely no doubt, that the risk of being attacked is FAR higher than it was a few decades ago, when this kind of thing was unheard of. I'm sick of hearing about offender's right, whilst the public are being put at ever greater risk.

How do you know it was a racist attack? There's nothing in this story to suggest he made a racist remark, or said anything at all. There could be other reasons he attacked this man - he may be mentally ill, for instance.

Sorry Nick, but if you believe that then you're either incredibly naive or just have your own anti police agenda.

I would concede that some complaints may not be investigated immediately by police due to a lack of available resources and that there are some that would be closed almost immediately due to the complete absence of any viable lines of inquiry (e.g. I was assaulted at a rave this weekend but it was so crowded, I didn't get a look at the offender).

However I guarantee you that a complaint would never be dismissed solely because the offender was a member of a particular section of the community. If you have evidence to the contrary (which isn't simply your own interpretation of the circumstances), please do give details.
