Albion director prepares for election battle

The Argus: Albion director prepares for election battle Albion director prepares for election battle

A football club executive has been selected to stand for a suburban ward in next year’s local elections.

Brighton and Hove Albion director Martin Perry has been chosen as one of three Labour candidates to compete for seats in Hangleton and Knoll at the 2015 Brighton and Hove City Council elections.

Mr Perry will be joined by voluntary sector worker Nigel Jenner and freelance journalist Chris Henry, who is currently working for Labour candidate Peter Kyle’s campaign for Hove at next year’s general election.

The trio will be hoping to unseat Conservative councillor Dawn Barnett and Tony Janio while the third incumbent, Labour’s Brian Fitch, is standing down at the next election.

Mr Perry said: "I am delighted to have been selected to represent the people of Hangleton and Knoll and they will be my top priority.

“I will be working hard with the other Labour candidates, the Labour Parliamentary Candidate, and the Labour Group to ensure that after the election in May 2015, the ward is well represented by three Labour councillors and a Labour Member of Parliament. “

I have no idea whether Perry is going to make a good or bad councillor.
.
However he does appear to be very photogenic in his nylon football anorak.
.
Also being a Director of a popular local football team is clearly a great asset.

The danger is we play the game of celebrity politics, a formula any party can follow, & we end up voting on the basis of the personality we like, rather than on policies.

Why doesn't he then have the courage to stand against a green councillor ?

Labour = tax, spend, fail. Always have done, always will. Labour are the enemies of anyone that wants to get on in life, but marvellous at self-interest.
