ALBION fans are eagerly waiting to see if the club makes it into the multi-million-pound promotion play-offs today.

A total of 2,000 expectant fans are heading to Nottingham this morning quietly confident that the football gods will shine on them at the lunchtime match.

A Brighton and Hove Albion victory away to Nottingham Forest, or even a draw, could be enough for the play-offs if Reading slip-up at home to already promoted Burnley.

Seagulls supporters say the club has already exceeded expectations this year and more would have headed to Nottingham if tickets were available.

Making it to the play-offs would bring rich rewards.

Even an unsuccessful run to Wembley could bring in £10 million, while promotion could be worth up to £120 million to the club and an extra £60 million to the city.

Liz Costa, vice-chairwoman of the Albion supporters’ club, will be waiting at home but says she may be in a better position than the fans in the City Ground to keep an eye on events at the Madejski Stadium.

She said: “I will be keeping everything crossed.

“Burnley are capable of doing what we want, they are not going up for nothing.

“We all said that if we finished in the top ten we would be happy, so whatever happens we have exceeded expectations.”

Harry Towner was named as James Brynin fan of the year at the club’s end of season awards on Tuesday, receiving the award from the fallen Pulborough soldier’s father Efrem.

The 15-year-old has missed just one game this year despite ongoing treatment for anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a rare form of non-hodgkin lymphoma, which he was diagnosed with in March 2013.

His father Jon said: “Harry absolutely loved the awards’ ceremony, he said it was the best thing that happened this year.

“Somebody said on the radio that more people will be supporting Ashley Barnes today than when he played for Brighton.

“I think Brighton can do it but Brighton fans are always optimistic.”
